In what cases is it necessary to replace/update a study permit

While studying in Canada, you may need to renew or renew your study permit. Here you should immediately make a reservation that the study permit is not physically renewed (that is, no one will put a stamp on the renewal on your letterhead), in all cases, you will receive a new form with new data.

If you understand that your study permit is about to expire, and for some reason, you have not yet completed your studies, you need to apply for an extension of status IN ADVANCE. Ideally, 3 months before the expiration date. In this case, even if you do not receive a new study permit before the current one expires, you will retain the right to continue studying for the waiting period. Just save the confirmation of sending documents for renewal.

If you did not apply for an extension in advance, then immediately after the expiration of the current study permit, you must stop studying and working. But even in this case, you still have a chance to restore your status without leaving the country. To do this, there is a procedure for restoring the status (restoration). You have this opportunity for 90 days after the expiration of the study permit.

It is important to understand that in any of the above cases, no one guarantees you a positive decision. All of your details will be reviewed again to see if you qualify as a temporary resident in Canada.

In what cases is it not required to replace/update the study permit

If you have a valid study permit and decide to change province, school, and/or program of study, then you do not need to renew or change your study permit. In these cases, it is sufficient to notify Immigration Canada of the change. This can be done electronically.
