Studying
abroad during high school is quite an experience so much so that there are
several exchange scholarship programs for the minor.
In addition
to the notices for High School itself, there are also opportunities in other
scholarship categories such as short courses at large universities or events
outside the country.
Immerse Essay
Competition: Cambridge Summer Course Scholarship
In the
other post, we talked about Reach Cambridge, however, it is not the only
writing contest that awards scholarships for short courses at the University of
Cambridge. There is also the Cambridge Immerse Essay Competition, which is a
little different.
In addition
to accepting candidates within a higher age group between 13 and 18 years old
in this case, the student does not necessarily need to be from a public school.
Also, this
competition is divided into two categories 13 to 15 and from 16 to 18 years
old. 10 winners in different writing topics are selected to win full
scholarships for a Cambridge Immerse Summer Program summer course in the field
of their choice.
In addition
to classes and activities related to the courses, the winners are entitled to
accommodation, food, and all necessary support during their stay. Second-placed
earn up to 70% exemption on registration.
You must be
fluent in English to be able to write the essay and, if you win, follow the
classes. However, a language proficiency test is not required.
Plural+: UN
video competition awards a trip abroad:
Plural+ is
a UN initiative that awards young people in a video competition on topics
related to migration, social inclusion, diversity, and xenophobia prevention.
The contest
takes the winners on an all-expenses-paid trip. The location changes every
year, the last one went to Morocco. Plural+ is divided into three categories:
up to 12 years old; young people between 13 and 17 years old and, the last
category, between 18 and 25 years old.
Interested
parties must submit a video of up to 5 minutes including opening and credits.
It doesn't have to be English, but if it's in another language, you'll need to
put subtitles.
EF Challenge:
All-Paid New York Travel Scholarship:
The
Education First challenge, known as the EF Challenge, selects young people from
around the world to participate in the EF Youth Leadership Forum, an event that
takes place in New York, USA. Therefore, this is also an opportunity for a
“mini” exchange for minors.
Applicants
must be between the ages of 14 and 18 and must submit a video crafting a speech
on a particular issue. In the last edition, the theme of the challenge was
“which world problem are you most eager to solve?
In this
case, the video must be between 3 and 5 minutes long and must be entirely in
English. However, proof of language proficiency is not required.
Latin
American Leadership Academy (LALA):
LALA 's
mission is to promote sustainable economic development and strengthen democracy
in Latin America. To this end, its focus is to form and connect a new
generation of leaders.
The
institution does this through Bootcamps, that is, meetings of a few days in
different locations in Latin America. In addition, it promotes “Academia”, a
three-month exchange program in MedellÃn, Colombia.
Both
modalities are aimed at high school students and are paid. However, according
to LALA, financial assistance would be provided for those in need. But it's not
very clear how this works exactly.
ACE Youth
Forum: UN event grant:
Action for
Climate Empowerment is a UN event on climate change. The last edition took
place in Bonn, Germany, and 40 young people aged between 16 and 36 were
selected to participate in the forum.
Scholarships
usually cover all costs related to the three days of the meeting: airfare,
accommodation, visa, food, and transport. To apply, you must know English, be
from a developing country and be interested in the theme of the event.
There is no
need to prove proficiency in English, but it is recommended that the candidate has
an intermediate level to actively participate in the conference. In addition to
having to fill in the registration form in English, the entire event will be in
that language.
